The Garmin Pilot is now available as a free download on Google Play for Android owners. The application is supporting English language. It weighs in at only 10MB to download. The new Garmin Pilot app version 2.8.1 has been updated on 2014-01-21. The Apple Store includes a very useful feature that will check if your device and iOS version are both compatible with the app. Most iPhone and iPad are compatible. Quite a disappointing app for a leader like Garmin updates after updates some bugs keep appearing The latest bug inability to add some trip it s briefly added before disappearing on a Motorola G4 which make the app useless Moreover the aircrafts can t be saved Meanwhile my subscription keeps running     Cactus 920

Lots of room for improvement App occasionally hangs on startup after saying a one time download is required Only fix is uninstall reinstall Then when REdownloading charts and data 4 items will download then the next 4 items in the queue will move to the downloading box and hang When the app works it s great but it can be incredibly inconvenient             James Bryan

App installation freezes while downloading during install process on my new Samsung Tab A Beware android users Garmin support finally guided me on how to fix and was able to complete download However downloading initial app does not give you status of what it s doing which is frustrating hence 4 stars                 SJ Liddane

I like this app a lot and it works well I wanted to try it out on my Note 9 with stylus as I am working on my instrument rating However for some bizarre reason the Scratch Pad is not available on the phablet versions of the app as confirmed by phone tech support I can get all the other features but the Scratch Pad is important for taking down weather and clearances etc It s important to find a cockpit workflow and not having the Scratch Pad is a real downer At least give users the option they can decide on their phone version screen size etc             Justin (Personal)

Excellent Just keeps on getting better I use both Foreflight and Garmin I started using Garmin because I prefer android to iOS Over the last few years Garmin pilot has made significant improvements I find myself preferring it to Foreflight nowadays Thanks for the hard work dev team A metar widget would be a great addition at some point                     Brigham Nelson

Constantly hangs during FAA Navigation Data Download Update When it happens the only fix is uninstall and redownload The hang happens very sporadic Sometimes I can use it for weeks with no problems Other times it happens each time app is opened I have had subscription for 3 years and this just started about 6 months ago Please fix 5 Star if it gets fixed Im using Galaxy Note 9 with most current updates It does not happen on my Ipad             Justin Peters

Garmin pilot works well but certainly has lots of room for improvement Frequently app crashes should be expected when using this app as well as slow loading times even for downloaded content Other electronic flight bags are Superior to this one but Garmin is the best available for Android             Sean Buckley

This is a great EFB I love everything about it except that Garmin does not connect with my Stratux i would choose Garmin in an instant but for this flaw For this reason i will choose a different EFB IflyGPS or DroidEFB             Mitch Barnes

Database Concierge feature does not work properly on Android in my experience on a Pixel3 Use an iPad instead 1 Database download sometimes hangs requiring reboots to get unstuck 2 G1000 Nxi never displays the Update Database pop up even though everything else is ready             Eric Grosse

This application is stuck at 23 download on my android phone I tried deleting and reinstalling several times but it keeps getti g stuck at 23 showing processing and that additional data is required despite having wifi connection Kindly assist and solve this problem             Ahmad Usman

Overall good app however has some strange bugs and limitations The most annoying bug is that the auto generated tracklogs are often missing for me This has been the case across 3 devices Some flights are there while others are simply lost One other oddity is that I haven t found where to find AF D listings for VORs you can only open those pages for airports                 Jeff Chern

When I try creating a new aircraft I always get a FORM ERROR that says unrecognized aircraft type What do I do I m flying an Aeroprakt A22ULS Super frustrating spending hours trying to make this work However as I m spending more time with the app now in the airplane I ve raised my rating from 2 to 4 stars as the functionality for me is very substantial Hoping the above error will soon be resolved soon                 John Gilliat

To start with this app is much better on ios I use a s9 always optimized however this app uses more battery power than all other processes combined even after its closed shutting down the app is almost impossible even after a force stop I have uninstalled this app several times just so my phone can make it through the day out of over 100 apps i have installed this is the only one that acts this way         A Google user

This app is very useful for tablets We use Asus zenpad tablets at work already and will try to use this on them It is missing some major features compared to the Apple version If I could export or send w b calculations like you can on the IOS version i would be able to do away with any other w b app that I have there are not any good Android apps for helicopter w B s on Android other that this one if it had a few adjustments C mon let s get Android apps up to par with the iOS Also what are the reasons why there are no documents on cloud or klm waypoint uploads These would make it very easy for my flight department to swap over to this app alone             Patrick Herren

This app works great but I just realized the Stadium TFR ring only measures 2 5NM when the NOTAM specifically says 3NM I used the distance measuring feature in the app itself so either there is an issue with the distance measuring or there is an issue with the size of the TFR ring This could cost pilots dearly if the were to have to fly close to the TFR border for whatever reason                 Ryan Doolittle

Use this on a Samsung Galaxy TAB S2 and a Garmin GDL 50 not required I see a lot of comparisons to Foreflight here I ve never used Foreflight because I ve never owned an Apple product So perhaps I m blissfully ignorant but with that said I love this application Some of the functions are a little clunky getting to airport details for example and I have seen the same issues some have mentioned here with download queuing not always behaving But this has increased my situational awareness immeasurably One issue I ve encountered is twice in a year that the application has suddenly become VERY slow when starting up Like several minutes slow The only fix I ve found is for force stop the application Clear Cache and Clear Data then start it up again This causes everything downloaded to be lost so I have to invest the time and Internet bandwidth to re downloading sectionals terrain database en route low charts and so forth The airport services data attractions database is often incorrect or out of date FBOs change ownership names restaurants close etc but I assume that s often on the facility to report that info Not Garmin s fault necessarily                 Alan Holmes

The overall app is good but lacks key features compared to foreflight and fitplan For example you cannot access the Jepp charts on the Android app Also the pattern altitudes are reported wrong on many of the airports The logbook currency is not intuitive especially on the currency on the rentals etc It does however integrate seamlessly with Garmin devices             Nithin Raghunathan

Garmin Pilot is becoming unreliable and worthless for use in a cockpit I have ADS B out in the airplane and GDL 39 for in Both Galaxy Tab S and Galaxy 6 phone randomly do not show radar and TFR overlays on the map We have a major presidential tfr today that is not showing Only the Washington adiz and the Disneyland tfr show up     A Google user

Full of bugs flying in mountainous areas synvision will suddenly stop showing reliefs but at the same time the app will display terrain alerts Doesnt show terrain elevation as if it was not importsnt to pilots plus the apps would freeze and need restart too often Sad that I paid for it     A Google user

It s a nice app pretty much all in one but I would be nice if they support more third part ads b hardware than just their own This has me looking at other apps to replace it Especially since fltplan go supports third party it would be nice if pilot started to as well                 Ian Tompkins

I have used this Android app for about a year It was my backup to Foreflight since I do not carry paper Well I tried to use it I wanted this to work and be a good program The performance is not acceptable Un installed     John Trolinger

Brilliant App very useful with so many great features I have the premium subscription on top of the normal and I am so pleased with it Gives me accurate terrain and obstacle warnings as well as detailed terrain mapping along with synthetic vision which helps when the Chopper doesnt have an Artificial Horizon or Direction Indicator Definitely would recommend it                     Nicholas
